1936 l4th September, born in Pavlikov near Rakovnik 1943 His father dies. 1951-1961 Studies at the Secondary School of Applied Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (painting and printmaking), and on Saturdays and Sundays plays the drums with bands at dances in the Rakovnik and Beroun districts. 1961-1969 Works in the Black Theatre of Jiri Srnec. Taurs with the company in Europe, Australia, Africa and America. 1962 His work is exhibited for the first time at the Guests of the Hollar Associatian exhibition, Prague. He first encounters cantemporary 20th-century art at museums in Edinburgh and London. 1963 He sees a retrospective of work by Max Ernst in Cologne. 1964 He studies the ethnic art of Australian aborigines and tribes of Oceania in Australian museums. It has a major intluence on his own work, and he acquires the first objects for his future collectian. Marries his fiirst love, Milada, a former fellow student and member of the Black Theatre company, at the Czechoslovak Cansulate in Sydney. He first sees the Biennale di Venezia. 1966 First sola exhibitions at the Liberec Regional Gallery and the Gallery on Charles Square, Prague. Takes part in the "Current Trends in Czech Art" exhibition held for the AICA Congress in Prague. 1967 Takes part for the tirst time in the International Biennial of Prints in Ljubljana. First solo exhibition abroad: Galerie im Centre, Gottingen. 1968 Exhibits for the first time in the USA: Recent Graphics from Prague, Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C. (Jan and Meda Mladek Collection). 1969 Starts to work with the Jacques and Anne Baruch Gallery, Chicago, which would subsequently organise Anderle's exhibitions and pramate his work throughout the USA. For the first time wins prizes at international print biennials in Cracow and Liege. Participates in an exhibition marking the 500th anniversary af Albrecht Durer organised by the Albrecht Durer Society in Nuremberg -Albrecht Durer zu ehren (Albrecht Durer Geselschaft Nurnberg). Jacques Ludovicy frotn Luxemburg introduces the Baukunst Gallery, Calogne, to Jiri Anderle's work. Directed by Irene Gerlind and Gerd Kohrmann, this gallery begins to publish a catalogue of Jiri Anderle's graphic works. 1969-1973 Assistant to professors Jiri Trnka and Zdenek Sklenar at the College af Applied Arts in Prague (Frints and Illustration Studio). 1970 Exhibition of Prints at the Vaclav Spala Gallery, Prague (tagether with Stanislav Kalibal). 1971 Exhibition of Prints Konsthallen, Uppsala (jointly with Jiri John and Adriena Simotova). 1972 A Francis Bacan retrospective in Dusseldorf makes an unexpectedly strongimpact on him. 1979 He is deeply ímpressed by the Pablo Picasso retrospective in Paris. 1980 In the magazine Art News, Harold Joachim (director of the department af prints at the Art Institute of Chicaga) calls Anderle's print "Cruel Game for a Man" the most important print of the 1970s: Art News had asked prominent curatars and print experts to pick their favourite image of the past decade, Art News (New Yark - Sept. 1980). 1981 Wins the Grand Prix at the International Biennial of Prints, Ljubljana. for the cycle. 1982 Pictures from the cycle are exhibited at the central pavilion of the Biennale di Venezia, at the thematic exhibition "Arte come arte: Persistenza dell'opera" (Art as art: the persistence of the work). Retrospective of prints at the Natianalmuseum, Stockholm. 1983 Mladinska Knjiga Ljubljana and Edition Baukunst Koln publish a monograph of Anderle's works (texts: J. Kotalik, J. Masin, G. Kohrmann, B. Hrabal). 1983 Participates in the exhibition "Dessins Tcheques du 20e. siecle" at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. 1984 Further presentation of Anderle's works at the central pavilion of the Biennale di Venezia at the thematic exhibitian, "Arte allo spechio" (Art in the Mirror). 1986 Teaches at the Summer Academy in Salzburg. 1990 Collaboration with the Baukunst Gallery in Cologne ends. Work on publishing the catalogue of his prints is continued by the Gotz Gallery in Stuttgart. First short trip to New York after an interval of 28 years. 1994 The Munich exhibition, Elan Vital - a selection of 550 pivotal works by Kandinsky, Klee, Miro, Calder and Arp - makes a strong impression on Anderle. He begins the cycle, "Returns". 1995 Retrospective of prints and drawings at the National Gallery, Prague. The Slovart Press published a major monograph of his works with texts by Jiri Machalicky and Jiri Anderle himself. 1996 Retrospective of paintings at the Imperial Stables of Prague Castle. 1997 Ethnic art in exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Naprstek Museum in Prague affects him powerfully and once again has a strong influence on his work ("The Primordial" cycle), as well as inspiring him to build up his own collection of ethnic art from Africa. 1997 First short trip to Chicago to attend the 30th anniversary of the Jacques and Anne Baruch Gallery. 1998 Begins work on the cycles "At the Close of the Century" and "At the Close af the Millennium". 2000 " AT the Close of the Milenium " exhibition on the occasion of the meeting Monetary Found and World Bank Group at Prague Congress Centre. 2002 " Wiew Back and Forward " exhibition in Katowice ( Poland ). 2003 Opening permanent exposition of Andele's art and collection of traditional African art in villa Pele, Prague 6. 2006 A gallery of Anderle's early work opened at the local council building in Pavlíkov near Rakovník. Anderle was awarded the State Medal of Merit by the Czech president. Made an honorary citizen of the Prague 6 municipality. 2008 The largest retrospective to date of Anderle's prints held at the Cincinnati Museum, USA. 2009 The exhibition Batrachomyomachia - work 1959-2009 held at the House of the Stone Bell, City Gallery Prague (30 000 visitors). 2011 Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic award to Anderle Artis Bohemiae Amicis for propagation the good name of Czech culture. 2013 Trebia European Prize for creative work. Thre was published book of memories Love for Love, which Anderle records in Czech Radio for eighteen years. 2014 exhibition of Pellé villa was relocated to a new gallery in his hometown Pavlíkov. Er wurde am 14. September 1936
geboren in Pavlíkov (Czechien) geboren, wo er auch seine Kindheit verlebte.
Gemäß des Trends des totalitären Regimes hätte er Bergmann werden sollen,
aber der Zeichenlehrer an der Mittelschule in Rakovník erkannte sein Talent,
und so konnte Anderle Kunst studieren (1951-1961 Studium an der Grafikschule
und Kunstakademie). „Während des Studiums spielte ich an den Wochenenden
mit einer Band bei Tanzveranstaltungen auf dem Dorf. Ich habe die mit
Emotionen geladenen Tanzsäle beobachtet. Diese Gefühle und auch die visuellen
Eindrücke, die ich acht Jahre lang in den Gasthäusern meiner Heimat erlebt
habe, habe sich tief in mein Gedächtnis eingeprägt und beim Schaffen sind
sie mir immer eine Stütze.“ Der Durchbruch geschah 1964 in Venedig. „In dieser wunderschönen Stadt spielte das Theater auf der Biennale. Nie werde ich den Moment vergessen, als ich den Markusplatz sah, diese monumentale Bühne mit den Touristenmassen. Theatrum mundi – Welttheater, sagte ich mir. Dieses unerwartet starke Erlebnis bestimmte die Richtung meines Schaffens. Seit diesem Moment nahm ich auf jede Tournee Platten und Leinwand mit, und wenn ich Freizeit hatte, habe ich in Garderoben und Hotelzimmern gezeichnet und gemalt.“ Die erste große Anerkennung wurde ihm 1966 zuteil, er wurde zur Teilnahme an der Ausstellung „Aktuelle Tendenzen in der tschechischen Kunst“ aufgerufen, die in Prag anläßlich des AICA-Kongresses veranstaltet wurde. 1969
beendete er seine Tätigkeit im Schwarzen Theater. Er war dann vier Jahre
lang Assistent bei den Professoren Trnka udn Sklenáø an der Hochschule
für Kunstgewerbe (VŠUP). Trotz des starken Drucks der Normalisierung lehnte
er es ab, in die KSÈ (Kommunistische Partei) einzutreten und verließ die
Hochschule. Seit dieser Zeit tauchten seine Werk bei Ausstellungen in
der Tschechoslowakei kaum mehr auf, erhielten aber bedeutende Auszeichnungen
auf internationalen Biennalen im Ausland. Bisher wurden seine Werke mit
42 Preisen ausgezeichnet einschließlich des Grand Prix Ljubljana 1981
für den Zyklus Illusion und Realität. 1970
schloss das Außenhandelsministerium einen Vertrag mit der bedeutenden
Galerie Baukunst Köln über die Präsentation seines Schaffens im Ausland
ab. Der Kurator der Galerie Gerd Köhrmann legte ein Werkverzeichnis von
Anderles grafischem Werk an und aktualisierte es ständig, und reihte Anderles
Werk so in die führenden Museen weltweit ein. 1971
beteiligte er sich nach Aufforderung der Albrecht-Dürer-Gesellschaft in
Nürnberg an der Hommage an Albrecht Dürer zu dessen 500. Geburtstag. 1972
fand Anderles erste Ausstellung in der Baruch Gallery in Chicago statt,
die in den folgenden Jahren Ausstellungen in den führenden Museen der
USA organisierte. Als die in New York erscheinende Zeitschrift Art
News 1980 führende Kuratoren und Kenner der freien Grafik aufforderte,
ihr Lieblings „image“ des vergangenen Jahrzehnts zu nennen, bezeichnete
Harold Joachim, der Direktor der Grafikabteilung am Art Institute of Chicago,
Anderles Blatt Grausames Spiel für den Menschen als bedeutendste
Grafik der siebziger Jahre. 1981
organisierte das Schwedische Nationalmuseum in Stockholm eine Retrospektive
seiner Grafiken. 1982 war
im Zentrum der Biennale in Venedig (Arte come arte – Persistenza dell’opera)
der Bilderzyklus Illusion und Realität zu sehen. Die Erinnerung
an das intensive Erlebnis auf dem Markusplatz inspirierte ihn zum Zyklus
Commedia dell’Arte. Eine weitere Präsentation von Anderles Werken
gab es auf der Biennale 1984.
Die Nationalgalerie bemühte sich darum, diese Werke in seine Sammlungen
aufzunehmen, aber da Anderle nicht auf der Liste der genehmen Künstler
des damaligen Regimes stand, kam es nie dazu. 1986
lehrte er Grafik an der Kokoschka-Sommerakademie in Salzburg. Nach Beendigung
der Kooperation mit der Galerie Baukunst, begann Anderle 1989
mit der Galerie Götz in Stuttgart zusammenzuarbeiten. |
